Hardly available on the market are original rally cars from the 1950s and 1960s. Mostly, the vehicles were used in parallel in normal road traffic and their glorious double life was not known to the public. This Mercedes-Benz 220S sedan was completed in 1963 in the factory and immediately after its delivery to the then first owner, modified according to the specifications of the rally regulations in force in 1963. Various body reinforcements were made, better headlights and auxiliary headlights were installed, as well as sports shock absorbers. The engine was modified so that it could cope with fuel of poorer quality.
The first owner lived in the south of France, in the arrondissement of Narbonne, near the Spanish border. He was a car enthusiast and extremely fond of the German rally scene. So the car was partly equipped with top-class drivers and co-drivers, and was used in various high-ranking events in Germany.

In 2013, the car came into German ownership. Again, a rally and racing enthusiast entrepreneur had fallen in love with the Mercedes. He treated the car with care and was thrilled with its originality. However, his desire for more power and speed led him to trade the car in for a hearty pre-war race car. So today we are happy to offer you this rarity. The car has a FIVA passport with the super classification A/2 and belongs to the so sought-after "matching numbers" vehicles.
