A classic with the charm and nobility of the 1930s is this 4-door Mercedes-Benz model 290 Cabriolet D with a long wheelbase. The car was first registered in Germany in 1936 and equipped with the then usual 3-speed manual transmission, but already had a long transmission motorway. In the mid-1980s, an businessman from northern Germany discovered the vehicle and spontaneously bought it.
The elegant convertible was surprisingly well preserved in substance, but it was also seen the long service life of the war years and beyond. The new owner wanted to restore it to its original glory and opted for a complete restoration, which eventually drew over a period of 15 years. The work was entrusted to German specialists from northern Germany who, with the highest level of expertise and meticulous care, first disassembled the car into its individual parts, carefully worked it up and gradually reassembled it. The result presented in 2010 clearly shows that the good old "Made in Germany" is nevertheless a guarantee for top quality.
The dimensions are correct, everything is sitting as it was new and how can it be otherwise, even the slots of the screws all point in the same direction. The engine was rebuilt, the transmission as well. The spare wheels placed on the fenders on the left and right serve as holders for the two exterior mirrors just as they used to. The new owner took great pleasure in the beauty of the car, but moved it just about 100km per year in the last 8 years, to avoid the storage damage. Now the elegant convertible is to get a new home. We are happy to assist and look forward to showing you the vehicle here in detail in our showroom in Oldenburg.
