José Antonio Girón de Velasco, also known as “the lion of Fuengirola“ was minister in the dictatorship of General Francisco Franco in Spain and was considered as quite wealthy. Corresponding to his status, he wanted to have a luxurious Mercedes-Benz convertible and therefore ordered this elegant, sandbeige metallic 280 SE 3.5 Cabriolet with the Spanish sales organisation of Mercedes-Benz.
Already in January 1971, the car was registered and delivered to its new owner. The following years, he used the car privately and even stayed with it when the dictatorship of General Franco ended in 1975. At the end of the 1980s the convertible got into possession of Belen Ramirez Rivera Schreiber, a respected lady from Madrid who mainly used the car in the sunny Andalusia in the area of Malaga. In the beginning of this millennium, the convertible was acquired by Nertran Garcia Braulio, car dealer and real estate professional from Barcelona. During this time, the vehicle was certified by the Mercedes-Benz Classic in 2003.
Ten years later, the constantly maintained and perfectly conserved car has been sold to Germany and got into possession of the ROSIER Classic Sterne. The high quality demand of our clients made us opt for an extensive restoration. Thus the convertible was completely disassembled and its lacquer was removed. When reassembling and painting again, of course we paid attention to rebuild all the equipment details as described in the data sheet and to use the initial colouring.
