The new SL of the 107 series was presented to the public in spring 1971. In July 1974, the SL model range was extended: as a consequence of the oil crisis of 1973, the roadster and SLC coupé were now also offered with the 2.8-l-dohc injection engine, which had proved its worth in the "dash eight" series and the S-Class for two years. This meant that there were now three different SL models to choose from - nothing out of the ordinary these days, but at the time a first in the history of this model class.
